Pubs with Play

For families, the best kind of pubs are those where the kids can be kept entertained while the grown ups get on with the important jobs of eating, drinking, chatting and chilling. Each of these walks has a pub stop where you will find play equipment in the garden.

The walk is from the National Trust Woodland of Abinger Roughs to the village of Abinger Hammer where children can paddle in the River Tillingbourne.

The pub is The Gomshall Mill with a play area beside the river.

The walk follows the River Arun to the town of Arundel with its famous castle.

The pub is The Black Rabbit with seating and a play area stretching along the river banks.

The walk takes you from the village of Cheriton where the River Itchen flows to the parkland of the National Trust’s Hinton Ampner.

The pub is the Hinton Arms with a large garden and plenty of play equipment.

The walk is a quick and easy circuit around the village and includes a brilliant park.

The pub is The White Hart, with a covered outdoor dining area and children’s play area.

The walk is around Kingsley Pond and the heathland of Kingsley Common.

The pub is The Cricketers with a large garden and swings and climbing equipment for children.

The walk is from the village of Owslebury around the perimeter of Marwell Zoo, where you should be able to see some of the animals through the hedges!

The pub is The Ship Inn with cosy interiors and a good children’s play area.

The walk includes a giant sand pit and lots of places to paddle in the river.

The pub is The Alice Lisle with lakeside views and a comprehensive play area.

The walks are either up The Zig-Zag path to Selborne Common with far-reaching views, or past ponds and through woodland with a stop for a play at the stream.

The pub is The Selborne Arms which is next to the car park for both walks.

The walk begins at The Trundle, the site of an iron age hill fort with splendid views. It then heads down the hill to the pretty village of Singleton with a decent play area.
