The cosy Barley Mow sits in the quiet South Downs village of Walderton with the River Ems running through its garden. It is the perfect starting point for a number of excellent walks including this one that passes Watergate House and has views as far as Chichester Harbour.

This walk encompasses everything we love about the New Forest; an epic family pub, tracks suitable for walkers and cyclists, huge ancient oaks and magical conifer plantations, free-roaming ponies, heather clad open plains and bridges over gentle streams.

As it approaches Winchester, the River Itchen splits into many streams, some of which are crossed on this walk. The focal point is the gorgeous village of Easton with its dreamy thatched cottages and two pubs.

There are some gorgeous villages in this part of the South Downs and this walk links two of them, Singleton and Charlton. Both have great pubs and Singleton has a brilliant play area. The two villages are overlooked by Levin Down, a hillside covered in natural grassland.

This linear walk takes you down from Beacon Hill Nature Reserve into the Meon Valley, where you can get refreshments from a riverside pub before making your way back up the hill again.

Starting from a popular pub on the outskirts of Petersfield, this walk climbs through farmland to a ridge, where there are views to Butser Hill. The countryside is blissfully peaceful and you will enjoy a sprinkling of bluebells on the descent.
