Surrey Hills Walks

Fifteen of our favourite walks in the Surrey Hills National Landscape.

Enjoy far reaching views, a café, natural play area, vineyard, gin distillery, Silent Pool and a stretch of the North Downs Way on this walk from the popular beauty spot, Newlands Corner.

After enjoying the incredible views, head down hill to the stepping stones over the River Mole. Then it is a steep climb back up to the cafe, ice-cream hatch and woodland play trail.

From the café and natural play area, this walk takes you past exceptional views on a pushchair friendly trail. There are some interesting stories from the past to discover including the grisly tales of hangings to the more recent building of the Hindhead Tunnel.

Voted The Rambler’s Favourite Pathway, the boardwalk at Thursley Common Nature Reserve will take you over the wetland where you will spot birds, dragonflies and other wildlife. If you want a longer walk, you can add on a loop to the pub and play area in Thursley.

One of Surrey’s most popular villages, Shere is packed with cafes, tea rooms, gift shops and pubs to welcome its many visitors. Our walk will take you around the outskirts of the village and along the River Tillingborne where children will enjoy a splash in the fords and feeding the ducks.

Start this walk at Manor Farm Tea Room in a pretty courtyard beside a craft shop, then head off past the village church and through woodland. In spring you will spot daffodils and bluebells.

This walk around the attractive village of Chiddingfold packs in two pubs, a play area, a coffee shop and in spring, plenty of bluebells.

Quieter than it’s bigger neighbour, the little pond is a haven for wildlife. Sandy paths will take you on an easy walk around the circumference of the pond before you stop at The Tern Cafe situated right next to the water.

Children will love the play trail spread though the woodland on this walk that also includes some tracts of heather clad heathland. This is a great one to try in the autumn!

There is so much to see on a walk at Norbury Park, that we made two routes from each end of the park. One begins at the natural play area and includes a bluebell wood, the other passes through a magnificent field of wild garlic. Both will take you to Wild! About Coffee at the woodland hub.

This walk is at its very best in spring when the woodland is filled first with bluebells and then with rhododendrons. Make your way up to the tower, which you can climb up for a small fee, or grab yourself a snack from the kiosk while you enjoy the views.

We have written two walks at Westcott, both with the aim of getting you to Coffee in the Copse, a car free, nature café hidden in the woodland. One is a more challenging route passing Tillingbourne Waterfall and the other is a gentler one starting at The Nower.

There are miles of paths across the sandy heath of Hankley Common, but we chose the ones on this route so that they would lead you to The Duke of Cambridge half way around your walk, which has an outstanding children’s play area in the garden.

This is a beautiful woodland walk that starts at The White Horse pub. There is an optional diversion to find the mysterious standing stones and it is also well worth visiting the large duck pond and looking inside the church while you are in the village.

This is a linear walk that will take you through woodland from the village of Tilford to Waverley Abbey, one of our favourite free to access ruins. Tilford has a pub overlooking the village green and a popular space for playing by the river.
