Roydon Woods Nature Reserve

Boldre

Children will enjoy paddling in the ford on this walk.

Roydon Woods is a great place to see bluebells in spring.

The Basics

Time:

Distance:

Terrain: Mostly flat gravelled paths, some quiet country roads, one short ascent, rougher, muddier paths on the permissive path diversion.

Pushchairs: Pushchairs will make it around the main loop, but not on the permissive path diversion.

Dogs: Dogs are welcome on leads.

Refreshments: There are no refreshments directly on this walk - we enjoyed a picnic on the church benches. The nearest pub is The Filly, and you could extend this walk to reach it via a bridle way.

Toilets: There are no public toilets on this walk.

Public Transport: There is no public transport to this location.

Parking: Free car park behind St John the Baptist church, Boldre (Postcode: SO41 5PG - W3W: ///lateral.walls.removals).

The ford in Roydon Woods is great for paddling

Roydon Woods Nature Reserve is known as one of the best places in the New Forest to see bluebells in its grassy meadows and ancient copses. There is no direct access to the reserve, so we chose to start from the pretty Boldre church and circle around to where a footbridge crosses over the shallow Lymington river.

The Route

Did you know?

During the week, Street Croft is an ordinary working farm. But as is the case with so many farms, the owners needed to diversify to keep making a profit. The farm has its own butchery and there are plans for more food offerings, including breakfasts.

We are passionate about keeping The Ambling Path as a free resource available to everyone, forever. If you have enjoyed using our walking guides, then please consider leaving us a donation. This will help to cover our costs as well as rewarding the considerable time and effort needed to maintain the site. Thank you.
