This walk is the perfect length for little legs, and there will be no complaining, as the impeccably clear waters of the Itchen will provide them with plenty of river wildlife to observe, and at one point they can even get their toes in the water too.

Leave plenty of time for this walk beside the River Itchen as there is a wealth of diversions on route including St Catherine’s Hill, Hockley Viaduct, Hospital of St. Cross, Wolvesey Castle, Winchester City Mill and Winchester Cathedral.

This is a gem of a walk starting out beside a beautiful old village church (and pub!) with access to The River Meon via a peaceful little nature reserve.

This was one of the very first walks that we included on The Ambling Path and despite having walked over 130 more family walks since, this remains a firm favourite due to the easy route and the opportunities to access the River Meon.

This little nature reserve packs in an awful lot. We managed to spend a few hours here last winter, and in the summer we probably could have spent even more!

Follow the Radnor Trail through varied woodland from ancient deciduous to Norway spruce to Bratley Water where children can splash in the stream. The walk ends at a viewing platform, where if you are lucky, you will see a herd of fallow deer. A great choice for the autumn.
