Angmering Park Estate is privately owned, but many footpaths and bridlepaths run through the area meaning that the public can enjoy it. This walk loops through Wepham Wood and due to estate traffic using the tracks, they are really well surfaced and maintained. The woods are lovely all year round, but are particularly worth visiting during bluebell season.

The Route

  1. This is a really straightforward walk, with basically just three turns. From the car park, take the path continuing north from the car park in the direction of the white horse jumps. Keep going along the track past the sign that says, ‘dangerous corner, dead slow’. You will pass by a house and then a waterworks. Just after the waterworks there is a confluence of paths. Turn left here through an open metal gate. Take the lightly gravelled path that is going up hill.

  2. When you reach a junction where logs have been placed to prevent parking, turn right along the tarmac track. Continue along the tarmac until the track dips down to a T-junction. Turn right onto the gravelled track, leaving the tarmac behind.

  3. The path here is lined by conifers and will continue in a straight line, passing the line of Angmering Park Cottages before reaching the same point where you turned left in section one.

  4. Re-trace your steps from here, past the waterworks and down to the car park

  • If you park on Blakehurst Lane, go around the gate and down the track signed to the grain store. Heading in a straight line along here will bring you to section two above. You can then follow to the end of point three, where you should turn right just before the waterworks through the open metal gate and up the hill.

Angmering Park Estate extends across 6,750 acres and is part of the original Norfolk Estate. The seat of the current Duke of Norfolk is nearby Arundel Castle. The origins of the estate go all the way back to the Norman conquest.
