Great paths for cycling
Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Park is a new 40-acre open space provided as a lasting commemoration to Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. Children will love the flat multi-use paths if they are learning to ride bikes and the adjacent airport will delight aeroplane lovers.
The Route
There are coloured markers from the car park to guide you around the park. We followed the blue route, which took us around the perimeter of the entire park. On the blue route, you will pass the statue, commemorative benches and walk right beside the runway. We saw a vintage WW2 plane take off while we were there.
The play area is located just across the entrance to the car park. It has an aviation theme and there are some picnic benches.
Did you know?
The area was previously known as Daedalus Common and as a nod to this, the 8m high sculpture of the figure from Greek mythology was commissioned. It depicts Daedalus, father of Icarus, taking flight for the first time with the wings Athena granted him after the death of his son. It represents hope and achievement.
